My Daddy's Reflections on the Final Day of L.E. Course...

Here are my views:

Today's lesson covered on the final part which is "Improving the L.E.". After doing all the hardwork to assess the learning environment, the next imperious task will definitely be focused on how to use the assessment's findings and analyses to fine tune the L.E.
Interestingly, I have some thoughts about the point "Design an intervention plan" (one of the approaches to improving L.E.) because you need to get 'buy-ins' if you want to change the L.E. Change Management is something you can't ignore especially when you work in a big organisation like in SAF... You can't possibly make any change if you don't get the required support from your boss and colleagues.

Lastly, back to the focal point of this L.E. lesson. It is best summarised by the diagram below:

Thank you everyone in this course which has made my learning a wonderful experience... Cheers...

My mommy says I have a good sense of humour...

I like to watch "Bunny Town" shown on Channel 34 every Sat & Sun, 7.30pm.

I think I look funny here... Hee Hee...

My Daddy Says...

Today's lesson is very much practical in nature. We dig into the systematic process of data entry (using excel spreadsheet), data analysis (using SSPS viewer) and preparing the necessary information before embarking on the actual report writing. Take a look at the snapshot of my cmap.

That's all for today...

Reflect, reflect, reflect... on Tuesday, 17 Jun 08

These are my reflections for today:

1. I know a bit more about some gurus in today's lesson, such as Henry A. Murray, B. Fraser, Rudolf Moos, Kert Lewin, Walberg, etc... Will be good to find out more about them from the mindmaps created by the class.

2. On designing of surveys, the use of "I" word in surveys are more often than not 'personal' type, i.e. from the individual perspective.

3. Lastly, something not related to lesson today. With Tiger Woods' win in the US Open this early morning, it just reinforced my belief that diligence + talent + determination + luck = TW's formula for success. It must really start from young age, just like how TW did it. A recap from last week's EP lesson on developmental psychology, the 5 key developments of a child from age 2 to 11 years old, which are Diligence, Emotional Intelligence, Conscience, Language & Maths. We must facilitate our child for success since young, but at the kid's comfortable pace (a warning).

Cheers...

My Idol Tiger Woods Wins..!

Really admire the mental strength and determination of Tiger Woods. Trailing by 1 stroke at the 18th hole of this morning's US Open playoff against Rocco Mendiate, he was able to hold his nerve and manage a birdie.

This Major win is really another showcase of why Tiger Woods is the best golfer that mankind will ever know... till the emergence of his daughter..? Maybe, just maybe, that his daughter may take over his mantle in future. Who knows?

My Reflections for today's lesson...

Today's lesson is very much focused on the element "learner" in the context of a learning environment.

Every learner has his own personal needs/ objectives when it comes to learning, be it intrinsic (from within, motivation) or extrinsic (external gains). It will impact on his humanistic behaviour towards his learning process. However, the learning environment (l.e.) can also affect the learner's behaviour. In this course, we refer to l.e. not in terms of physical association like infrastructure, but we look into the people and psycho-social (interaction) factors.

Next, an simple exercise showed my inclination for management profile in l.e. towards a "Commanding/Authoritative" + "Laissez-faire" style, which very much match my own assessment before doing the survey. Hope to find out more about these styles in future.

Lastly, I will attach my Cmap here as reference, though it is not a completed work.

Cheers...

My comments after viewing Dr. Quek's Podcast...

I like the term "conducive and inclusive learning environment". More often than not, we don't use the word "inclusive" as this is the first time I come across it being used together with conducive l.e. As 'educators', I think this is the ideal l.e. to strive achieving. My past experience of one such l.e. happened when everyone, from the boss down to the clerical assistants had willingly played a part in creating a conducive and inclusive workplace. I think a good l.e. depends very much on people and their interactions, more than the physical infrastructure and environmental factors. So, in the e-learning/IT age, can we create a "conducive & inclusive" l.e., especially when the interaction between people are very much restricted?
